KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor convened an emergency meeting at Sri Gaya on Sunday following the major power outage that struck Sabah’s East Coast on Saturday.
He was briefed by Sabah Electricity Chief Operating Officer Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof, who said the outage was caused by a collapsed 275kV Kolopis-Segaliud transmission tower brought down by a landslide in Kampung Sarapung, Penampang.
The meeting was also attended by State Secretary cum Disaster Management Committee Director Datuk Seri Safar Untong and Sabah National Security Council (NSC) Director Datuk Yahya Sulaiman.
Yusmanizam said the Sabah Electricity crisis team is working on reconnecting the power line and, weather permitting, expects the works to be completed within two days.
Hajiji urged the team to prioritise safety during the restoration works and instructed Sabah Electricity to keep the public updated while monitoring the situation closely due to the unstable weather.
