Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday laid the foundation stone for a Rs 75.40-crore road and drainage project in the Wazirpur Industrial Area to address chronic waterlogging and infrastructure issues in one of Delhi’s largest industrial hubs.

The project, to be executed by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation, will redevelop 5.77 km of roads in A Block of the industrial area and construct and upgrade an 11.54-km stormwater drainage network.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said the project would provide a long-term solution to damaged roads, inadequate drainage and waterlogging that had affected industries and businesses in the area for years.

A key feature of the project is the introduction of underground utility ducts, which will allow multiple civic services to be housed below ground and reduce the need for repeated road digging by different agencies. Gupta said the technology would save time and resources while improving the durability of roads.

She said the modern drainage network would improve rainwater discharge and help tackle flooding during the monsoon, a recurring concern for industrial units and local residents.

The Chief Minister said the government’s objective was to modernise industrial areas across Delhi and equip them with world-class infrastructure to boost industrial productivity, attract investment and generate employment.

Referring to development works in the constituency, Gupta said more than Rs 200 crore had been sanctioned for various projects in Wazirpur. These include a proposed Rs 40-crore Chhath Ghat project along the canal stretch between Inderlok Metro Station and Haiderpur, besides other civic infrastructure initiatives.

She said the government also planned to establish 100 Atal Canteens across Delhi, with two already operational in the Wazirpur Assembly constituency. Five Ayushman Arogya Mandirs had also been set up in the area to strengthen primary healthcare services, she added.
