CM: Penang pledges continued support for Islamic development and education

PENANG has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Islamic development across the region, including the construction and maintenance of mosques, suraus, and religious schools, as part of efforts to further strengthen the state’s Islamic educational framework.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, in a message for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting Islamic education, such as upgrading religious schools and tahfiz institutions.

He said these efforts are aligned with both the Islamic Development Agenda 2030 and the Penang 2030 Vision, ensuring that progress and prosperity are shared by all.

"The Penang state government remains dedicated to fostering the development of Islamic institutions," Chow said.

"This includes upgrading religious schools, suraus, and tahfiz institutions to ensure that no one is left behind in the pursuit of knowledge and progress."

As part of these efforts, Chow revealed that the state had allocated substantial funding to support the development of Islamic infrastructure and education.

A total of RM10.22 million has been earmarked for the construction and maintenance of mosques and suraus, while RM14.2 million will be directed towards enhancing Islamic education, including the improvement of religious schools and tahfiz institutions.

Chow expressed his hopes that the festive celebrations would serve to further unite the people of Penang.

"This year's celebrations should strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and unity within our community, fostering greater harmony and mutual respect among all," he stated.

Chow reflected on the enduring tradition of visiting friends and family during the festive season, noting that the exchange of gifts serves as a symbol of remembrance and appreciation for one another.

"These acts of kindness reflect the growing spirit of love and respect for diversity, which are core values that define our humanity and must be preserved," he added
