Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday visited the D-Park market and interacted with shopkeepers whose establishments and goods were gutted in the fire that broke out on June 9. He expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced monetary relief for the affected traders from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
As per the announcement, owners of the affected footwear shops and the general store will receive Rs 5 lakh each. Two fruit juice shops will get Rs 2 lakh each, and three other units — a food kiosk and two carts — will receive Rs 50,000 each.
“The government stands firmly with the families and traders affected by the devastating fire,” Saini said.
While acknowledging that no compensation can replace the loss of human life, he assured that the state government would extend every possible support to the victims and affected business owners.
Saini reiterated that the families of the three people who lost their lives in the fire would receive Rs 10 lakh each. He added that the government would make every effort to compensate for the losses incurred.
The Chief Minister said Urban Local Bodies Department is conducting a detailed assessment of the damage caused by the fire. Based on the report, the state government will take further decisions regarding additional assistance and compensation to ensure maximum relief to the affected traders.
He noted that the market is an old commercial area and emphasised the need for greater vigilance to prevent such incidents. Necessary measures will also be taken to avoid a recurrence.
Interacting with the media, Saini said preliminary information indicates the fire was caused by a short circuit in an air conditioner, which rapidly escalated and engulfed several establishments. He identified the deceased as Aman, Rohit Khurana, and Kapil. He prayed to the almighty to grant peace to the departed souls and expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
The Chief Minister commended Fire Services Department, administrative officers, and employees for their prompt response. “Rescue and relief operations began immediately after the fire broke out. Fire brigade personnel worked continuously for nearly six to seven hours to bring the blaze under control. Administrative and fire service teams remained at the site until the fire was completely extinguished,” he said.
Later, Saini visited the residences of the three individuals who died in the D-Park fire on June 9. He expressed grief and offered condolences to the bereaved families. Former minister Manish Grover was also present.
