Every festive season, one might have a ritual that one enjoys doing as preparation before the celebration. Since 2017, I started drawing a mural of the animal zodiac for the year. As we say goodbye to the Tiger year, we welcome the year of the Rabbit on January 22, 2023. It took me two days to complete the Rabbit mural on my mirror. The Rabbit is the fourth of all zodiac animals. This year 2023 is the Year of the Water Rabbit, a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture.
Drawing has always been my passion but due to my busy housewife routine, I didn’t have time to pursue it as much as I like. I remember during my school days, art class was one of my favourite subjects. I would felt very happy when my drawings were selected to be displayed on the school notice board. Drawing gives me peace of mind as I concentrate on the task of applying each brush stroke.
My favourite mural to date is the Tiger that I drew last year. It gave me pride and satisfaction each time I saw it. Maybe my inner self wants to make it a yearly thing as I enjoy drawing so much. It’s the best opportunity for me to express my artistic passion.
I prefer using watercolours as I can adjust the colours, shades and make adjustments as I go. Additionally, it’s easier for me to wipe off the mural from the mirror surface. As I am painting the mural, I contemplated what the coming year will bring for me and my family.
Would the Water Rabbit bring greater challenges or changes? What do we expect for the coming year? What are some resolutions that we hope to accomplish?
We can only hope for the best and do the best we can if we are to accomplish what we want in the coming year. Without action on our part, nothing can be accomplished.
