Miguel is heading back to the Land of the Dead, and this time around, he won’t be a clueless kid anymore. At the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026, Pixar gave us a sneak peek at Coco 2, the upcoming sequel to the 2017 Oscar-winning film.
For the uninitiated, the first movie followed 12-year-old Miguel after he accidentally gets transported to the Land of the Dead while searching for his great-great-grandfather, a legendary musician he hopes can convince his family to let him pursue music. Now almost 10 years later, Miguel is all grown up, though he still has his beloved guitar and loyal dog, Dante, by his side.
The newly unveiled poster for Coco 2 has already sent the internet into a nostalgic spiral, with fans reaching for tissues at their first sight of a grown-up Miguel. His return to the Land of the Dead, however, will not just be a trip down memory lane. It promises another thrilling adventure in the world that brought his family back together nine years ago.

What is the plot of Coco 2?
Coco 2 will be set a few years after the events of the first movie. Miguel is a teenager now, but his past shenanigans are about to catch up with him. Ernesto de la Cruz has also returned with revenge on his mind, setting Miguel on another extraordinary journey to the Land of the Dead. At the D23 2026 event, Benjamin Bratt (who voices Ernesto) teased the storyline of the highly anticipated sequel, hinting at yet another life-changing adventure for the now-older Miguel.
Cast and crew of Coco 2
So far, only Benjamin Bratt has been officially confirmed to return to voice Ernesto de la Cruz. The rest of the cast members are yet to be announced.
The sequel will also reunite the team behind the original film, including director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina.
Is there a release date for Coco 2?
The sequel will arrive in theatres in November 2029. However, the exact release date for the Pixar movie is yet to be announced.
