Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the filmmaker behind Train to Busan, Colony is the most anticipated Korean zombie movie of 2026. The action thriller marks Yeon’s return to the infected-survival genre that made him a global name, this time with a large ensemble led by Jun Ji-hyun and Ji Chang-wook.
Apart from Yeon’s reputation in the zombie genre and a stellar cast, Colony has also drawn attention for its evolving infected creatures and large-scale survival setting. The Korean movie blends biological horror with action-thriller elements while focusing heavily on how humans psychologically transform during critical situations.
Colony has reportedly secured international sales across more than 120 territories ahead of its Cannes debut, highlighting strong global anticipation for the project.

Colony follows Kwon Se-jeong (played by Jun Ji-hyun), a biotechnology professor attending a conference inside the Dunguri Building when a rapidly mutating virus suddenly spreads through the facility. Meanwhile, biologist Seo Young-cheol (played by Koo Kyo-hwan), believed to be responsible for the outbreak, becomes central to the mystery after revealing that he possesses the vaccine.
The official Cannes synopsis describes the movie with the line: “As the virus spreads, the order begins to mutate.”
