MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Thursday it is expecting three million additional voters ahead of the 2028 national and local elections, with continuing voter registration set to begin on Nov. 10.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said the registration period would run nationwide until July 30, 2027, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“We plan to be able to register around 3 million voters. Currently, we have 71 million voters, and we plan on an addition of 3 million. So we will have more or less 74 million voters in the 2028 National and Local Elections,” Garcia told reporters at the Comelec Main Office in Intramuros, Manila.
The Comelec will launch the registration campaign at Luneta Park on Nov. 10, with activities scheduled for three days.
Garcia warned candidates against vote-buying.
“We will not hesitate to disqualify candidates or file appropriate cases against them,” he said, urging voters not to sell their votes.
Garcia said the Comelec aims to complete the purging of the voters' list before the end of 2027 through its Automated Fingerprint Identification System.
