Police say claims of a commando-style raid on Masjid Rusila in Marang Terengganu recently were overstated after investigations found the incident had been blown out of proportion.
A police source told The Vibes the case has since been classified as no further action (NFA), adding that several claims surrounding the incident had been exaggerated.
“There was one police report lodged by the mosque committee member on Oct 8 and based on our investigation, we have classified the case as NFA.”
“There was no raid conducted or the mosque being trespassed. Most of the claims made were exaggerated,” said the police source.
Recently, Perikatan Nasional chief whip Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan claimed that 10 to 15 Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency personnel came in five vehicles and entered the compound of the mosque on Sept 19 without permission.
“They entered the mosque wearing shoes, intruded on the women’s prayer area, and conducted searches, causing discomfort among the people there,” Takiyuddin claimed.
Incident at Rusila Mosque a misunderstanding
Meanwhile, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail clarified that the incident involving MMEA personnel was merely a misunderstanding related to a military training module.
He said the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the uniformed personnel should not be misinterpreted, as it was part of a training exercise that had been planned for several months.
“The case involving the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency has been resolved. A meeting was held with the mosque and the imam, and an explanation was given — the police have classified the matter as NFA.”
“It was merely a misunderstanding. But when it was presented that way recently, it took on a different meaning. I had to clarify it immediately because the Home Ministry deals with all sorts of dynamic issues every day,” he said during the ministry’s monthly assembly this morning.
According to Saifuddin, closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the location found nothing unusual, contrary to the allegations.
“I’ve seen all the CCTV recordings — there was nothing out of the ordinary. I also contacted the Terengganu police chief for confirmation.”
“The police then met with the mosque management and the Member of Parliament for Marang, and both parties agreed that it was merely a misunderstanding,” he said. – October 24, 2025
