Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor wants the positive security developments in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) to be communicated more effectively to foreign missions in Malaysia to encourage a reassessment of travel advisories.
Speaking at the Esszone Joint Committee meeting co-chaired with Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail at Menara Kinabalu, Hajiji highlighted that no kidnap-for-ransom cases have been reported in the area since January 2020.
He said lowering travel advisories based on these positive developments would enhance international tourist confidence and encourage more visitors to Sabah's east coast destinations.
Commending the Eastern Sabah Security Command, police, armed forces, maritime enforcement agency, and other security bodies for their dedication, Hajiji noted that the overall security situation in the zone remains under control following his recent inspection of six island security posts.
He added that the state government will continue working closely with the Ministry of Home Affairs and relevant agencies to strengthen operational capabilities, enhance assets and preparedness, and improve the welfare of security personnel.
