Company director fined RM10,000 for death threat against lawyer

A COMPANY director was fined RM10,000 by the Magistrates’ Court here today after pleading guilty to criminal intimidation involving a death threat against a female lawyer last month.

Magistrate Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi also ruled that Heng Hua Kian, 45, would serve 10 months in prison should he fail to pay the fine.

According to the charge, Heng sent a threatening message with intent to cause fear of death to the 36-year-old victim. The offence took place at Home Taste, Lebuh Macallum, at approximately 5.33pm on 29 September.

The charge was framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Danial Amir Saad urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, citing the trauma inflicted on the victim and the seriousness of the threat.

However, the defence counsel, Koay Chun Hian, appealed for a minimal fine, noting that Heng is the sole breadwinner for his family and is also responsible for the care of his parents and school-going children.

It was understood that the victim in the case was the lawyer representing Heng’s estranged wife in their ongoing divorce proceedings. - October 13, 2025
