Company fined RM20,000 for operating lifts without valid certificate

KOTA KINABALU: Kinabalu International Hotel Sdn Bhd was fined RM20,000 for operating passenger lifts without a valid safety certificate.

The Sessions Court heard the lifts at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu were used despite expired certification from Jan 11 to Oct 7, 2025, following a routine inspection.

The offence falls under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000 or jail upon conviction.
