Know all about the plot, episode release schedule and other details of the K-drama Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born here.
Written by Choi Hyo-bi, the 2024 K-drama, through a woman-dominated narrative, promises to bring to our screens the glory of Korea’s all-female musical dramas known as Yeoseong Gukgeuk — an integral cultural treasure of the nation that has been dormant for decades. The story follows the life of Jeong-nyeon, as she joins Maeran Gukguek-dan and competes against powerful industry rivals to become one of the best female theatre artists in post-war Korea.
Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born boasts an impressive cast and stars Shin Ye-eun, Kim Tae-ri and Jung Eun-chae in leading roles. Talking about her character Heo Yeong-seo, an elite trainee at Maeran Gukguek-dan, Shin Ye-eun said in a 2024 interview (via K-media outlet Soompi), “Yeong Seo may appear cold on the surface, but I believe she has a warm heart. She struggles to give love because she hasn’t received much herself, and she has a strong desire to be recognized. Her perfectionist tendencies can make it hard for her to see her own strengths, making her a bit of a wounded soul.”

What has happened in the K-drama on Disney Plus Hotstar so far?

Previously in the tvN K-drama, Jeong-nyeon shines in the auditions at Maeran despite her sprained shoulder and in a special exception for the year, is selected as an understudy. Later, judge So-bok calls her privately to explain that she chose her as an understudy rather than a full trainee because others might think Jeong-nyeon was selected due to her connection with actress Ok-kyeong rather than her talent.
Elsewhere, full-time trainee Yeong-seo assigns Jeong-nyeon the role of Bangju in a play, a character known for being embarrassing. Yeong-seo hopes that, given the silly role, Jeong-nyeon would withdraw from the play. However, Jeong-nyeon takes the role as a challenge and promises to ace it.
In episodes 3 and 4, Ok-gyeong gives Jeong-nyeon the script for the play’s audition but the latter refuses to take the easy route. Meanwhile, Yong-rye forces Jeong-nyeon to return home but So-bok intervenes and reminds the mother that Jeong-nyeon is her student and she won’t let her leave against her will. Later, So-bok sees Jeong-nyeon singing in public and misunderstands her for having a side job. As a result, Jeong-nyeon is thrown out of Meeran.
Elsewhere, Park Jong-guk comes to Jeong-nyeon’s rescue and she joins him. He takes her to a studio where she will be performing and live-streaming for television shows across the country. Jeong-nyeon also meets Patricia Kim, a singer who will train her for her TV debut.
In the upcoming episodes 5 and 6, viewers can expect the show to delve deeper into the rivalry between Yeong-seo and Jeong-nyeon.
