KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his condolences over the death of rock band XPDC’s vocalist Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim, popularly known as Mael.
His passing, Anwar said, has left a void in the local music industry.
“I’d like to express my condolences to his family and may Allah place him among the righteous,” he tweeted yesterday.
Meanwhile, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil also expressed his condolences over Syed Ismail’s passing.
“I am one of his millions of fans, and people around me know that the song, Semangat yang Hilang (one of XPDC’s hit tracks) is my favourite song. May Allah place him among the righteous,” he said in his Facebook post last night.
The news of Syed Ismail’s death was also shared by his manager, known as Bro Yazid, in a Facebook post yesterday.
“Innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun, Al-Fatihah, XPDC singer, Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim (Mael), breathed his last at Muar Hospital at 9 this evening.”
XPDC was a popular rock band in the 1980s and 1990s. Its penchant for holding concerts at funfairs nationwide earned the group the nickname Raja Funfair. – The Vibes, April 28, 2023
