Taking a major step for public safety, Deputy Commissioner Dr Anand Kumar Sharma has directed the officials of the Karnal Municipal Corporation and Fire Department officials to conduct a comprehensive fire safety audit of all public and commercial buildings across the district and submit a report within 15 days.
Chairing a meeting on fire safety at his office, Dr Sharma emphasized that the safety of citizens remains the administration’s top priority. He instructed officials to ensure that all public and commercial establishments are equipped with proper fire safety systems without delay, warning that any negligence in the matter would not be tolerated.
To monitor the implementation of these measures, Dr Sharma directed the officials to form a special committee under the chairmanship of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC). The committee will include the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC), Assistant Town Planner, and District Fire Officer. It will be responsible for checking fire safety audits of targeted buildings throughout the district.
Dr Sharma directed officials to pay special attention to private buildings, hospitals, showrooms and busy market areas where public footfall is high. He stressed that all such establishments must install fire safety systems in accordance with government norms and prescribed guidelines.
To strengthen safety arrangements in marketplaces, he also instructed officials to hold meetings with market association representatives and create awareness about the importance of installing fire safety equipment in all buildings as per regulations.
DC Dr Sharma also appealed to owners of commercial establishments, private hospitals, and showrooms, to take responsibility and ensure compliance with fire safety norms.
“Safety equipment is not merely a legal requirement but a vital tool for protecting lives and property during emergencies,” he maintained.
Dr Sharma also made it clear that any violation of fire safety directives would invite strict legal action. “Public safety cannot be compromised at any level,” he said.
