The Una Block Congress Committee on Wednesday declared three candidates whom the party would support in elections to the Zila Parishad (ZP) in the Assembly constituency. Block Congress president Rajnish Kumar, while addressing mediapersons, announced the names of the candidates in the presence of Kutlehar MLA Vivek Sharma and former Una MLA Satpal Raizada.

The candidates declared are Diksha Saini (Chattara), Sonia Rana (Dehlan) and Priyanka Sharma (Raipur). Later, president of Kutlehar Block Congress Vivek Minka said that the party would support Reena Devi for the Dhanet seat, Sumit Sharma in Takka and Satya Devi in Lathiani.

Vivek Sharma and Satpal Raizada said that it would be the duty of all Congress supporters and leaders to work towards ensuring the victory of the candidates. However, the selection of party-supported candidates for the Zila Parishad elections in Kutlehar showed cracks in the Congress organisation.

District Congress president Des Raj Gautam, who happens to be from Kutlehar, had earlier opposed the candidature of Sumit Sharma from Takka. He had on Tuesday categorically stated that Sumit Sharma was not the party-supported candidate and that the block party unit had taken the decision without taking the District Congress Committee into confidence. He had also announced that the matter would be taken up with the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee.
