The Chandigarh Congress has criticised the statement of BJP leader Sanjay Tandon for opposing MP Manish Tewari’s demand to provide relief to the economically weaker sections and middle class residing in Chandigarh.
Chief spokesperson of the party Rajiv Sharma in a statement issued today said that supplying 300 units of free electricity and 20,000 lt of water per household would not cost the authorities much, but deliver vital relief to countless struggling families. Sharma said that these leaders stayed silent when the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation hiked water and garbage collection charges every year. They did not utter a word when the resource-rich Chandigarh Electricity Department was handed over to a private firm for a pittance.
Sharma added that with inflation raging unchecked and unemployment soaring, the economically weaker sections and middle class desperately needed immediate relief.
