Elon Musk appears to be pleased with how the Tesla Model Y performed in Malaysia throughout November, especially amid stiff competition from the Proton e.MAS 7 and several BYD models.

He retweeted a post by Tesla Malaysia announcing that the Model Y had been crowned the top EV (electronic vehicle) in the country for November, adding a brief “Congratulations” of his own.

While it may look like a small gesture, Musk’s retweet quickly gained massive attention, racking up millions of views and reminding everyone that Malaysia is very much on Tesla’s radar.

Malaysia’s EV scene is charging ahead

Behind the viral retweet is a much bigger story. Malaysia’s electric vehicle adoption is accelerating at full speed.

Based on the latest Road Transport Department (JPJ) data, a record 5,417 EVs were registered in November 2025, marking a 200% year-on-year increase compared to November 2024.

EVs now make up 7% of Malaysia’s total industry volume for the month.

While the Proton e.MAS 7 has been the dominant EV for much of 2025, Tesla reclaimed the crown in November, with the Model Y emerging as the most popular EV.
