
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Council of Churches extended warm congratulations to the Roman Catholic Church on the election and installation of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, as the new leader of the global Catholic community.
In a statement issued by, President of the Council Reverend Datuk Ir Jerry Dusing the Christian community in Sabah joined in celebration of what was described as “a divine moment of unity and spiritual renewal.”
“This sacred occasion marks a divine moment of unity and spiritual renewal for the global Catholic faithful, and we rejoice with our Catholic brothers and sisters in this historic appointment guided by the Holy Spirit,” said Dusing.

“May his pontificate be a beacon of Christ’s love, fostering greater ecumenical collaboration, peace, and reconciliation in a world yearning for God’s grace,” the statement read.
The message from the Sabah Council of Churches also reaffirmed its commitment to continued collaboration with the Catholic Church in areas of mutual concern such as interfaith harmony, social justice, and the advancement of the Gospel’s mission.
“As fellow followers of Christ, we reaffirm our commitment to walking alongside the Catholic Church in promoting interfaith harmony, social justice, and the shared mission of the Gospel,” the Council stated, adding prayers for the Pope’s health, strength, and God’s abundant blessings on his leadership.
The installation of Pope Leo XIV has been met with worldwide acclaim and reflection, with many church leaders emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation during this time of global uncertainty.
