The Congress high command has appointed senior party leader and delegate member Gurjit Pal Walia as observer for the upcoming Nagar Panchayat elections in Lohian Khas falling under the Shahkot Assembly constituency.
Expressing gratitude to Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Walia said the party leadership had consistently encouraged young and active workers by assigning them important responsibilities since Raja Warring took charge of the state unit. He said the move aimed at preparing party workers for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Walia stated that he had earlier served as coordinator for the Phillaur Assembly segment during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. He was also appointed observer for Adampur during the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll and coordinator for the Kartarpur Assembly constituency during the previous parliamentary elections. During the Punjab visit of Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, Walia was entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating activities in the Jalandhar Central constituency.
Thanking the party leadership once again for the new assignment, Walia said he would discharge his responsibilities with full dedication and work alongside Shahkot MLA Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia to unite Congress workers and expose the “failures” of the Aam Aadmi Party government before the public.
He expressed confidence that the Congress would form the Nagar Panchayat in Lohian Khas and strengthen its position ahead of the next Assembly elections in Punjab.
