The Congress on Monday questioned the Centre over the CBSE digital evaluation controversy, alleging that students were being forced to pay for failures within the system while demanding accountability from Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi linked the CBSE row to what he described as wider failures in India’s education system, citing examination leaks, funding cuts, shrinking public education infrastructure and rising youth unemployment.

“Beware of pickpockets, today they’re sitting inside CBSE,” Rahul said.

Referring to fees charged for post-result procedures, Rahul said students had to pay Rs 100 per subject for digital copies of answer sheets, Rs 100 per paper for re-totalling and Rs 25 per question for re-evaluation. According to him, students could end up spending close to Rs 2,000 to get answer sheets reassessed.

The Congress claimed nearly four lakh students sought rechecking-related services and questioned how much revenue was generated through the process.
