The Congress party has expelled two rebel leaders — Kuldeep Khasa and Satyveer Nirman — from the party for six years over indiscipline, anti-party activities and allegedly making indecent remarks against senior leaders during the Sonepat Municipal Corporation (MC) elections.

The action was taken 13 days after the declaration of the MC poll results. Both leaders have been removed from the party’s primary membership and relieved of all posts.

Confirming the action, Kamal Dewan, the party’s district president (urban), who unsuccessfully contested the mayoral election, said both leaders had been involved in anti-party activities for a long time and had publicly made inappropriate remarks against senior office-bearers.

Dewan said discipline was paramount in the party and no worker or office-bearer had the right to make indecent comments against the leadership or tarnish the organisation’s image.

He added that the Congress was a disciplined organisation and would not tolerate factionalism or dissent in public. While party members were free to raise concerns on internal platforms, targeting the leadership through the media or other public channels amounted to indiscipline, he said.

Dewan also directed party workers to participate unitedly in all party programmes.

Notably, Satyveer Nirman had sought a councillor ticket for his son, while Kuldeep Khasa was seeking a ticket from Ward 17 in the Sonepat MC polls. However, the party denied them tickets. Congress candidates lost in both wards.

The BJP swept the Sonepat MC elections, with mayoral candidate Rajiv Jain and 17 councillors winning in 22 wards. Congress won only five wards.

During the campaign, the BJP had also taken action against eight rebels. The party expelled office-bearers and workers — Mukesh Batra (Ward 13), Kiran Bala (Ward 20), Tejender Pal Singh (Ward 12), Pawan Taneja (Ward 15), Jogender Prajapat (Ward 22), Puneet Rai (Ward 8), Deepak Chawla (Ward 13) and Brhamjeet Singh (Ward 20) — for contesting against official party candidates and engaging in anti-party activities.
