Congress workers and leaders held a demonstration against the rising fuel prices, the NEET paper leak and economic hardship being faced by the citizens in Ambala City on Tuesday.
The Congressmen, gathered near the court complex, took out a protest march and submitted a memorandum to the President of India at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Ambala City MLA Nirmal Singh, Ambala District Congress Committee (Urban) President Pawan Aggarwal, Rural president Dushyant Chauhan, Rohit Jain, Mithun Verma, Ashok Mehta and several other Congress leaders participated in the protest.
The protestors raised slogans against the BJP government and alleged that the Centre is attempting to divert public attention away from fundamental issues, while failing to take any appropriate step regarding the actual problems being faced.
They warned that if the central government failed to bring inflation under control and put an end to the jeopardizing of the youth’s future, the Congress party would be compelled to launch a large-scale protest movement.
While addressing the party workers, MLA Nirmal Singh said the country’s youth are more anxious and distressed about their future than ever before. Incidents such as the NEET exam paper leak have shattered the trust of lakhs of students across the nation and their families.
“The repeated instances of paper leaks in competitive examinations prove the existence of an organised ‘paper leak mafia’ in the country. An impartial and high-level inquiry must be conducted and the strictest possible action should be taken against the culprits so that the youth’s faith can be restored,” the MLA said.
He further said that the central government has failed to control the petrol, diesel and LPG prices and the entire burden is being shifted on the general public.
“Over the past 11 years, the BJP government has offered the public nothing but inflation. Today, farmers, laborers, employees, traders, and middle-class families alike are all reeling under the impact of rising prices,” Nirmal Singh said.
District presidents Pawan Aggarwal and Dushyant Chauhan said that, due to the BJP government’s wrong economic policies, inflation in the country has reached an all-time high.
The rise in petrol and diesel prices is having a direct ripple effect on the cost of daily necessities. The prices of food items, vegetables, milk, medicines, construction materials, and transportation are constantly escalating, making life extremely difficult for the common man.
Haryana Pradesh Congress Disciplinary Committee Member-Secretary Rohit Jain said that the Congress party has always raised the voice of the public strongly and it will continue to fight the people’s battle—from the streets to the legislative assembly. Unemployment and inflation are steadily on the rise. Small traders and the working class have also been severely adversely affected by the government’s flawed policies.
Former Information Commissioner Ashok Mehta also criticised the government and said that the farming community has borne the brunt of the continuous rise in diesel prices. Agriculture requires substantial quantities of diesel for operating tractors, tubewells, and other farm machinery. Due to the rising cost of diesel, the input cost is escalating, while farmers are failing to receive fair prices for their crops.
