Congress workers and leaders staged a protest march in the city on Monday against rising inflation, the NEET paper leak, farmers’ distress, the hike in fuel prices, and economic hardship faced by the common people.
The protesters, led by District Congress Committee (Urban) president Parag Gaba, submitted a memorandum to the Naib Tehsildar addressed to the President of India. They demanded strict action against paper-leak incidents, transparency in competitive exams, a reduction in fuel prices, and relief measures for farmers and the common people.
Addressing the gathering, Parag Gaba said that the youth of the country are suffering from shattered dreams due to repeated paper leaks, while farmers are struggling to survive amid rising cultivation costs. He added that common families are finding it difficult to manage daily household expenses because of persistent inflation.
Gaba said the Congress party stands with every student, farmer, and struggling family affected by injustice, corruption, and inflation. “The Congress will continue to fight with full determination for the rights of the people, the future of the youth, and the dignity of farmers,” he added.
Former MLA Shamsher Singh Gogi said that rising diesel and petrol prices, along with the increasing cost of seeds and fertilisers, have pushed farmers into severe financial distress. Despite working tirelessly, farmers are being forced to live with losses and debt.
Former MLA Bakshish Singh said that repeated recruitment scams and paper leaks have destroyed the confidence of the youth, while farmers continue to suffer from economic pressure. He termed the situation a clear failure of the government.
Several senior Congress leaders and workers, including Joginder Valmiki, Binder Poswal, Dilsher Dochar, Tarun Chauhan, Lalit Ahuja, and Pankaj Gaba, criticised the government over the paper leaks and other issues.
“The government should take strict action against those involved in the paper leaks, and the Union Education Minister should resign,” said Valmiki.
