Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Monday said the 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre had been marked by “service, good governance and public welfare”.

Addressing a press conference in Dharamsala, Trivedi said India had witnessed “historic and unprecedented” progress in development, security and welfare under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Highlighting the Centre’s achievements, he said free ration was being provided to 80 crore people, airports and Vande Bharat train services had expanded significantly, more than four crore houses had been built for poor families and extensive highway and expressway networks had been developed. He also cited health insurance coverage for 50 crore citizens, saying the government had successfully combined poverty alleviation with rapid infrastructure growth.

Launching a sharp attack on the Congress, Trivedi alleged that the party was no longer capable of functioning as an effective opposition. “Congress is in such a poor condition that it is not even fit to sit in the opposition,” he said.

He further alleged that the party had drifted away from its original ideology and was increasingly influenced by “Muslim League and Maoist thinking”. Referring to election outcomes in Assam and West Bengal, he claimed the Congress’s political base had weakened considerably.

The BJP leader also targeted the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, accusing Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of “ruining the state” through poor governance.

On development issues, Trivedi said the Centre had allocated Rs 2,911 crore for railway projects in Himachal. He added that restoration and modernisation work on the historic Kangra Valley Railway, damaged during the monsoon, had been completed, while the survey for gauge conversion of the Pathankot-Jogindernagar railway line had also been finished. He claimed that the railway allocation for Himachal under the present government was nearly 27 times higher than during previous administrations.
