Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said the Congress was “on the verge of extinction”.

He was in the city to attend the ninth “mahan kirtan darbar” organised near Amar Pura Chowk to mark the Parkash Purb of Guru Amar Das. Saini bowed before the Guru and joined the congregation, praying for peace, prosperity and harmony in the society.

During his address, Saini said the Congress was struggling to count its seats across the country. He described Captain Amarinder Singh as a member of their family, and said they would form a government in Punjab together. Punjab Assembly elections are due in 2027.

Saini accused the Congress of exploiting Punjab during its rule and said it “increased corruption and drug problems”. Hitting out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Saini said it showed the people false dreams. The Haryana CM said the situation in Punjab was getting worse by the day. He alleged law and order had deteriorated in the AAP regime and the state was facing a grim situation.

According to Saini, businesses persons were “fleeing” Punjab to other states due to the situation. He alleged extortion had become rampant.

Saini claimed Centre raised fuel prices in emergency circumstances and global issues, such as the West Asia crisis, had worsened the conditions, creating challenges similar to the pandemic era.

At the event, Guru Amar Das Seva Society honoured him with a siropa and a memento. He highlighted Guru Amar Das’ teachings of humanity, service and equality, stressing their relevance in uniting the society. He announced a contribution of Rs 5 lakh towards land acquisition plans near a local gurdwara.
