A 44-YEAR-OLD Indonesian construction worker died after being struck by an excavator that lost control and overturned at a housing construction site in Sungai Yu, Tanjong Karang, yesterday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 3 pm, with the victim later succumbing to his injuries at Tanjong Karang Hospital.
Kuala Selangor District Police Chief Superintendent Azaharudin Tajudin explained that preliminary investigations revealed the excavator’s control level malfunctioned while being operated by a 38-year-old driver.
“The machine subsequently lost control, overturned, and struck the victim, who was working as a labourer on the site,” he said.
The victim was pronounced dead by medical officers at 5.05 pm.
The case is currently classified as sudden death, with investigations ongoing.

Body of Missing Dredger Crew Found Near Pulau Indah
In a separate maritime incident, the body of a 54-year-old Chinese crew member from the sand dredger MV DARRUN 88, reported missing since early Monday, was found yesterday morning.
Selangor State Maritime Director, Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, confirmed that Luo Deliang’s body was discovered around 8.20 am approximately 50 metres from the dredger, which was anchored one nautical mile west of Acheh Beach, Pulau Indah.
“The victim’s body was recovered by the Maritime vessel PERKASA 36 during search and rescue operations (CARILAMAT), assisted by agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department, Marine Police, and Civil Defence Force,” he said in a statement.
The body was transported to the Peninsular Sailing Club jetty at 9.10 am and handed over to police for further action.
“The CARILAMAT operation was officially concluded following the recovery,” Captain Abdul Muhaimin added.
He reminded all maritime operators and workers to prioritise safety, including the continuous use of life jackets during sea activities. - October 9, 2025
