CONTECON Manzanillo SA de CV (CMSA), the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) subsidiary at the Port of Manzanillo, has handled 12 million TEUs since 2013, solidifying its status as Mexico’s leading Pacific gateway.
In 2025, CMSA, which operates the Specialized Container Terminal II, reported a 10.5-percent increase in import volumes and a 12.5-percent increase in exports. This growth occurred despite flat performance across other Mexican Pacific coast ports. The terminal currently handles approximately 70 percent of Asian imports entering Mexico through the Pacific.
Since 2023, CMSA has invested over $300 million in its Phase 3A and 3B expansions, part of a total $900-million investment plan. The infrastructure includes 1.3 kilometers of berths and quay cranes with a 60-meter outreach, enabling the terminal to service 24,000-TEU capacity vessels.
“Reaching the 12 million TEU mark confirms that we are moving in the right direction at a critical moment as our expansion project enters its final stage,” said José Antonio Contreras, Contecon Manzanillo chief executive officer. “This milestone prepares us to operate with a capacity exceeding two million TEUs annually.”
Operational updates include the transition to hybrid equipment, which has reduced fuel consumption by approximately 50 percent. The terminal has held the ISO 14064 Carbon Neutral Certification since 2022.
Community initiatives in 2025 included awarding scholarships for the State Knowledge Olympiad and participating in Teleton Mexico. The terminal also organizes the annual Contecon Race for a Cause, which recently recorded 4,000 participants.
