CIVIL servants’ contract extensions will be determined by performance evaluations alongside agency requirements and broader administrative considerations, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has clarified.
She said any decision to prolong a contract is guided not only by an individual’s track record but also by the specific needs of the department involved, with the government weighing “appropriate considerations at the material time” before arriving at a conclusion.
Citing parliamentary rules, Azalina noted that speculative questions on prospective plans cannot be addressed definitively.
“In line with Rule 23(1)(h) of the Standing Orders of the Dewan Rakyat, questions concerning proposals or future plans that are speculative in nature are not suitable to be answered specifically,” she said.
“This is because they involve matters that have ‘yet to become an issue’ or are merely ‘hypothetical in nature’.”
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) operates effectively, adding that Putrajaya would make decisions “based on the interests of the nation and the people when the time comes.”
Azalina was responding in writing to Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli (PH–Pandan), who had asked about the proposal to extend the service contract of MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
