Kota Kinabalu: The Sessions Court ordered a company to pay RM30,000 or 12 months in jail for failing to implement adequate control measures on the building’s landing door causing its sub-contractor’s worker to fall in a project site.
CRCG(M) Sdn Bhd through its representative pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain.
The company had failed to implement adequate control measures on the building’s landing door for the passenger hoist to prevent any person inside the building from unlocking the landing door latch causing Abdul Jami Isnadi employed by subcontractor CHDY Construction & Trading Sdn Bhd to fall into the shaft from Level 5 of the building between Block 2 and Block 4 at the project site.

Further investigation revealed a critical lapse in safety, the landing door latch for Passenger Hoist No. 1 on Level 5 (Block 2 and Block 4) could easily be unlocked from inside the building.
This flaw allowed individuals to access an open edge, exposing them to serious fall hazards.
Additionally, the landing doors lacked any warning signage to alert workers not to unlock or open the doors from within the building.
CRCG (M) Sdn Bhd as the main contractor had failed to implement proper control measures and warning systems pointed to a significant breach in safety protocol on site.
Prosecuting Officer Karman Zulitni of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health prosecuted.
Meanwhile, a 52-year-old Filipino who is currently serving sentence for illegal entry, claimed trial to causing grievous hurt to his neighbour.
Abdul Rashi made the plea before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan.
Abdul is accused of causing injury to Abidin Painol by slashing him with a machete at 7pm on April 8, this year at the open space near a squatter housing area in Taman Intan,Penampang.
The court set June 17 for pre-trial case management and no bail was offered.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis appeared for the prosecution while Abdul was not represented.
