Contractor fined for threatening to disturb public order

Kota Kinabalu: A 45-year-old contractor was on Thursday fined RM25 or one day’s jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for behaving in a threatening manner to disturb public order.

Wong Tet Hon pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to committing the offence at 3am on Aug 17, this year at the San Jiao Dian, Taman Delima in Penampang.

The offence under Section 8 (1) (e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance provides for an RM25 fine or up to one week jail on conviction.

The court was informed by the prosecution that Wong, who was intoxicated on the said day, committed the offence while provoking another man.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing Wong, requested leniency.

In another case, a 28-year-old man pleaded not guilty to cheating a woman over a company investment.

Rick Rayner Ibin, a hotel receptionist was accused of cheating one Lovennda Clara by inducing her to invest in a company which caused her to give RM20,000 in cash.

The offence was allegedly committed at a restaurant in Inanam on Nov 18.

The charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years and whipping or with a fine, on conviction.

Jessica set Feb 7 next year for case management.

Rick was released on a bail of RM4,000 in two sureties.
