Kota Kinabalu: The contractor for the RM6.9 million Tuaran Sports Complex has applied for an extension of time (EOT) to complete the project.

This was disclosed in the additional information included in the Youth and Sports Ministry’s oral answer to a question by Telupid Assemblyman Jonnybone J Kurum (pic). The Ministry said the actual progress status of the Tuaran Sports Complex is 81.9 per cent.

“It was supposed to be completed in November this year and it was expected to be completed by early next year, but due to weather and construction material issues, the contractor had applied for an EOT,” said the Ministry.

As for the RM6.8 million Kota Marudu Sports Complex, the current actual progress status is 28 per cent.

“It was supposed to be completed in September this year, but due to weather and Covid-19 pandemic, works have been delayed for a year.

“An EOT has been applied by the contractor and it is expected to be completed by early next year.” Another sports complex that is currently under construction is the Tongod Sports Complex.

“The initial cost is RM7 million. However, there is an increase in cost due to the rocky and hilly land works. A Variation Order (VO) of RM4 million has been requested for this additional project, making the total cost for the project to RM11 million.

“The current implementation progress is 47 per cent. The project was supposed to be completed in November 2021, but due to the additional land works, it is expected to be completed in early 2024.”

To Jonnybone’s question, Assistant Youth and Sports Minister Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy said the Ministry has not yet received the 20-acre land approval document for the construction of a fully equipped sports complex in Telupid.

The Ministry will conduct a comprehensive study on the construction of a Telupid sports complex after the appropriate land is obtained and then forward the application for allocation to the Government under the development of the Malaysia Plan funded by the State Government.

“Currently, my Ministry is focusing on the completion of Tuaran Sports Complex, Tongod Sports Complex and Kota Marudu Sports Complex which are currently under construction,” he said.
