SARIKEI: A contractor lost approximately RM460,000 after falling victim to a non-existent investment scheme.

Sarikei police chief Superintendent Aswandy Anis said the man in his 50s lodged a report yesterday after realising he had been deceived.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

Aswandy said the victim encountered an investment-linked advertisement on Facebook promising lucrative short-term returns.

After clicking a link, he was directed to WhatsApp and added to a group where the scheme was explained.

The victim then contacted an individual acting as a mentor for the investment.

He was promised a 25% return on his investment within just 24 hours.

Acting on this promise, the victim made seven cash transactions totalling RM460,000 into two different bank accounts between 5 December 2025 and 5 January 2026.

He never received any of the promised returns.

Instead, he was told to make additional payments if he wished to withdraw the supposed profits. – Bernama
