CONTROVERSIAL blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, widely known by his moniker Papagomo, was arrested by police early this morning in connection with an investigation under the Sedition Act 1948.
His lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, confirmed the arrest in a brief statement, saying his client was detained at about 12.30am and will be taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 9.30am for remand proceedings.
“Wan Azri is being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948,” said Rafique.
The arrest follows an earlier court ruling on 24 September, when the Sessions Court ordered Wan Azri to enter his defence on a charge of making seditious statements allegedly inciting hatred against His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia.
Wan Azri, a former political activist and blogger known for his provocative online posts, has faced multiple legal controversies over the years. His latest case has reignited debate over the continued use of the colonial-era Sedition Act, which critics argue stifles free expression. - October 26, 2025
