Today (July 13), at 9am, the controversial open-micer Siti Nuramira Abdullah came to the Kuala Lumpur Courthouse (Jalan Duta) to follow the charging procedure at the Cyber Sessions Court.
She was charged for allegedly insulting Islam during an open mic comedy skit at TTDI Crackhouse Comedy Club recently and for that, Siti Nuramira pleaded not guilty.
The 26-year-old denied the charge against her after it was read before judge Siti Amirah Ghazali. She was charged under Section 298A of the Penal Code for inciting disharmony, division, hatred or malice on religious grounds.
Siti Nuramira was arrested by Bukit Aman federal police last Sunday (July 10) and had been remanded since then. If found guilty, she could be facing two to five years of jail time. The court allowed her RM20,000 bail with one surety and she was also required to report to the Brickfields police station once a month and must surrender her passport to the court.
According to China Press, her defence attorney sought for a bond amount between RM4,000 and RM5,000 because she was not a flight risk and because of her precarious financial situation.
Siti Nuramira found herself under fire when she stripped her hijab and Baju Kurung in front of crowds after claiming that she has memorised half of the Holy Quran as part of her open-mic comedy routine.
