Last week, on August 23 at Jalan Masjid India, an Indian man who survived a landslide incident decided to convert to Islam when he was spared from the fatal incident.

It is understood that on Monday at the Islamic Outreach ABIM (LOA) Center, Masjid Negara, Kuala Lumpur, Haridath uttered two words of shahadah.

"As soon as he survived from it, he made the decision to convert to Islam. He genuinely thought that Allah SWT existed and that He had spared him from being engulfed by the earth,” said ABIM.

The Islamic Youth Group of Malaysia (ABIM) spread the word about Haridath's conversion to Islam. ABIM confirmed the viral news that a man who was on the Jalan Masjid India during the landslide involving an Indian woman had converted to Islam.

According to ABIM, an official statement will be issued regarding the matter.

"Greetings. An official statement will follow, sir. The news is authentic," they said briefly via Facebook Messenger to Malaysia Gazette.

"So he continues to believe that Allah SWT loves him and he must convert to Islam and become a Muslim. Masya-Allah, we all felt moved by the guidance that Allah SWT threw at him immediately. He chose his new name, Haridath. He was really moved when we hugged him after he recited shahadah, with tears in his eyes," said ABIM.

The landslide that occurred at Jalan Masjid India, on Friday last week not only shocked all Malaysians but also caused many to worry about the safety of nearby locations.

Footage of the incident, which shows the anxious moments before the landslide, went viral on social media. In the recording, an Indian woman who was walking with other individuals was suddenly swallowed by the earth.

A man who was nearby also fell but he survived and managed to get up before escaping from the clear ground.

"He is the young man in the video who survived being swallowed by the mud," said ABIM, adding that Haridath is a 48-year-old resident of the area.

Even though the search is already in its seventh day, the 48-year-old woman identified as Vijayaletchumy's body has not yet been located.

In the meantime, Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin, President of ABIM, asked that everyone respect Haridath's privacy, allow him space, and pray for him.

He issued a message on Thursday wishing for “guidance from Allah SWT and steadfastness in doing what He commands and abandoning what He forbids.”
