Pep Guardiola finally got his first victory at Parken Stadium as Manchester City earned a 3-1 victory over Copenhagen in the first leg of their last-16 tie.
City were the dominant force throughout the game but faced a stubborn Danish side in their own back yard. Things were comfortable for the champions once Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring with a cool finish from the right side of the box but a shocking pass from Ederson allowed the hosts back into the game.
They had barely had the ball in City’s final third but Mohamed Elyounoussi set up Magnus Mattsson who curled a fine shot past Ederson for the equaliser.
Bernardo Silva then flicked home a second for City to send them into the break ahead and things remained that way until the final minutes. Sensing that the needed a bigger cushion to take back to Manchester, City upped the tempo. Erling Haaland forced a good save out of Kamil Grabara but Phil Foden recycled the ball and slotted home City’s third.
