Cops await forensic findings in death of 6-month-old baby at babysitter’s home

POLICE are awaiting forensic laboratory findings to establish the exact cause of death of a six-month-old baby girl who died after becoming unresponsive while under the care of a childminder in Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur earlier this week.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said officers received a report on the incident at 8.08pm on Tuesday after the infant was brought to hospital by her mother and the childminder, where she was confirmed dead.

According to Fadil, the baby's mother was informed by the childminder at 5.04pm that the infant had been unconscious for approximately 30 minutes while at the childminder's home.

"The case has been classified under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001," Kosmo! cited him saying in a statement on Friday.

Initial reports indicated that the infant was believed to have choked while being fed milk at the childminder's residence.

The incident came to light after the childminder contacted the baby's mother at about 5pm to inform her that the child was unconscious.

It is understood that the mother instructed the childminder to take the infant immediately to hospital for emergency treatment, but this was not done.

When the mother arrived at the childminder's home at about 5.15pm, she found her daughter unconscious and in a weakened condition before rushing the baby, together with the childminder and the childminder's husband, to the Emergency Department of Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

Despite efforts by medical personnel to resuscitate the infant, she was pronounced dead at 6.08pm.

Police said investigations remain ongoing, with laboratory examinations expected to determine the precise cause of death. - June 26, 2026
