Bukit Aman police bust a major drug trafficking syndicate masterminded by foreign nationals, seizing RM35.24 million worth of narcotics in the Klang Valley.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police busted a drug trafficking and processing syndicate allegedly masterminded by two foreign nationals in six raids across the Klang Valley on Sept 10, seizing various types of drugs worth RM35.24 million.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the operation, conducted in Ampang, Petaling, Kepong, Brickfields, Subang Jaya and Sepang, also led to the arrest of 11 suspects, comprising six local men, two foreign men and three foreign women, aged between 25 and 48.
He said the two foreign men, who hold Australian and Canadian passports respectively, are believed to have acted as the syndicate’s masterminds and chemists. The syndicate is believed to have been active since January.
“The syndicate used a rented bungalow in Ampang as a drug processing laboratory. A raid in Subang Jaya also uncovered various items of drug-processing equipment, suggesting the premises were being prepared for use as another drug laboratory,” he said at a press conference here today.
Hussein said the seized drugs, comprising 344.89kg of methamphetamine powder, 347.15 litres of liquid methamphetamine, 3.84kg of MDMA powder, 630g of Eramin 5 pills and 20g of cannabis, could supply an estimated three million users.
He said the quantity of drugs produced suggested that they were intended for both local and international markets.
“Police also seized 11 vehicles, a luxury watch, two ATM cards, RM3,610 in cash and a .38-calibre revolver. All the items, valued at RM1.79 million, were seized under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988,” he said.
Hussein said five suspects had been remanded for 13 and 14 days until Sept 23 and 24 respectively under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while the other six were released on bail to serve as police witnesses.
“This success reflects the JSJN’s commitment, robust enforcement and integrity in tackling the drug threat on all fronts.
“JSJN remains committed to fighting drugs to protect current and future generations. Drugs are the country’s number one enemy,” he said.
