Cops hunt for social media user over call to bomb mosque during Friday prayers

POLICE are tracking down the owner of a social media account that sparked outrage by allegedly urging others to bomb a mosque during Friday prayers.

The account, operating under the name Lyan Liu, came under scrutiny after posting a comment widely condemned as inflammatory and offensive to religious sensitivities.

The remark was reported by a 68-year-old trader who lodged a police report at the Sungai Udang Police Station at 5.11pm on Thursday.

"This concerns religion, and I was very dissatisfied with the comment. That’s why I came to the police station to make a report," Sinar Harian reported the trader said.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit confirmed that a report had been received and said investigations were underway.

"The case is being investigated by an officer in Johor as the first report on the incident was lodged at the Tampoi Police Station. Since similar reports have also been filed in other states, the case will be referred to the jurisdiction where the initial complaint was made," he said.

The post has drawn widespread condemnation online, with calls for swift legal action. Authorities are treating the case as a serious threat to religious harmony and public order. - April 18, 2025
