KUALA LUMPUR — Police have launched a manhunt for two masked individuals believed to be involved in a deadly shooting incident at a restaurant in Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields, on Friday night.

Brickfields district police chief ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the incident occurred around 10.50pm, when three local men, aged between 30 and 50, were dining with a group of friends. They were suddenly approached by two men on a motorcycle, who opened fire.

“One of the victims was confirmed dead at the scene due to gunshots and his body was sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) for a post-mortem.

“Two other victims are receiving treatment at PPUM with one of them suffering serious injuries while the other sustained minor injuries,” he told reporters at the scene early Saturday morning, as quoted by Bernama.

Authorities are reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings to establish the suspects’ identities and determine the motive behind the shooting.

Investigators are also working with eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage to trace the suspects.

CCTV clips from the scene reportedly show the assailants ambushing a group of four men before firing several rounds.

Footage from outside another restaurant captured additional shots being fired at 10.27pm, prompting patrons to flee in panic.

Deputy District Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Firdaus Mustaffa Kamal confirmed to Scoop that search operations are ongoing in four areas — Jalan Klang Lama, Taman Medan, Pantai Dalam, and Bandar Kinrara.

“We are conducting a manhunt for the suspects at these four locations based on CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts.

“The shooters were fully masked and fled the scene on a motorcycle immediately after the incident.

“We are currently relying on roadside CCTV footage and are confident of narrowing down the suspects, who are believed to be between 20 and 30 years old.

“We also urge the public to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Members of the public are urged to contact the KL Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999, the Brickfields Police Hotline at 03-2297 9222, or the nearest police station with any information that could aid in the investigation. - June 14, 2025
