KUALA LUMPUR - Police are believed to be investigating a man who is suspected of committing an indecent act against a woman who fell asleep on a bench at a 24-hour self-service laundrette in Batu Caves.
An individual who shared CCTV footage of the incident with rapper Caprice said the man allegedly attempted to molest a woman dressed in black while she was asleep on her side.
The footage reportedly shows the suspect acting nervously and occasionally putting his hand into his trousers after touching the victim.
“The case involves a woman asleep at a laundrette at 4 a.m. What’s most shocking is that the man was touching her legs and bottom, then exposed himself and performed a sexual act,” the individual told Caprice, requesting anonymity.
The CCTV also reportedly shows the victim covering her face with a cloth while sleeping, appearing unaware of the assault and highlighting her vulnerability at the time of the incident.
In a post on Threads, Caprice urged the public to come forward if they recognised the man in the footage and to report any information to the police.
He also warned women to exercise caution when visiting laundrettes late at night, advising them to avoid going alone and to always bring a friend for safety.
Sources told Scoop that police are conducting further investigations into the suspect, who is believed to be a college student at a local university, as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The post has drawn widespread condemnation online, with netizens expressing anger and frustration over the man’s behaviour.
Social media user @_.Nuraisyaaae wrote, “Please neuter this man so he doesn’t pass on such immoral traits to future generations!”
While @Datin_dyy added, “The woman may have been exhausted, but that does not give anyone the right to commit an indecent act. Hopefully, he will be apprehended soon, so no one else becomes a victim.”
Other users shared their distress at the incident, with one remarking, “Seeing this makes my chest ache. The woman must have been so tired that she fell asleep and didn’t realise what was happening,” and another warning, “Laundrettes can be dangerous, especially in the early hours. Luckily, it was molestation and not rape. Ladies, please don’t go out alone at night or to deserted places.”
