Cops probe claims that a Senator forced his bodyguard to consume non-halal food

POLICE will investigate an online claim that a Senator had allegedly forced his bodyguard to consume a non-halal item containing pork.

An individual had alerted the Senator of the posting claiming that the bodyguard had lodged a report that he was forced to consume pork.

Following that, the Senator had lodged a police report, urging the police to probe the allegations.

Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad In a statement, said the Senator had lodged a report denying the claim and for the police to find those responsible for the allegations.

“The bodyguard had also lodged a report denying that such a thing had occurred,” Hamzah said in a statement.

Police will probe the allegations under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation.

He also said two Vietnamese were killed by the police in a shootout in Nibong Tebal in the early hours of Thursday.

They had earlier failed to heed the police's warnings to surrender.

The duo were linked to a spate of break-ins at factories in Penang and Kedah.

Following the shoot-out, Hamzah said two other suspects were arrested in Juru and Ayer Itam in connection with several armed robberies in Bukit Mertajam.

He said both suspects had extensive criminal records, including for narcotics-related offences, and their arrests had solved five outstanding cases.

They are now under remand until October 2. - September 28, 2024.
