A mother from Kajang has reported an alleged case of abuse against her autistic son at a special needs school in Selangor.
Maria Fransiska, 38, became suspicious when her nine-year-old son returned from school with injuries on his limbs. When asked how he got hurt, her son could only say that he was hurt and had fallen down. Concerned, Maria took her son to a government hospital where a doctor confirmed that the injuries were consistent with being whipped by a cane.
The doctor advised her to lodge a police report, which she did. A meeting between Maria and her son's teachers was arranged by the police, but the staff were unable to provide any information on what happened or who caused the injuries. They ultimately apologized to Maria, claiming that they had overlooked the incident.
This was not the first time Maria had noticed injuries on her son; last year he came home with a bruise on his thigh and another time with a shoe imprint on the back of his shirt. The mother is devastated by the incident and refuses to accept the school's excuse. She believes it is unacceptable that they overlooked an incident involving her son, who struggles to communicate with others due to his condition.
The Kajang district police chief, Mohd Zaid Hassan, confirmed that they have received a report from Maria and that the case is currently under investigation. Cases of alleged abuse at schools for special needs children are deeply concerning. These children, who require special attention and care, should be given a safe and supportive environment where they can thrive and develop.
It is essential for schools to have protocols in place to ensure the safety and well-being of their students. If any incidents of abuse or neglect occur, they must be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action should be taken against those responsible. In this case, it is crucial that the truth is uncovered and justice is served for Tharun and his mother.
