The Mohali police on Friday recovered a dagger and a knife from the spot where a Patiala woman was murdered by her colleague. The incident had taken place on the premises of a logistics company at Phase 11 a day ago.
According to the police, 29-year-old Dimple Khatri was stabbed around 30 times. After stabbing her to death, accused Harjinder Singh Mann (34) inflicted stab wounds on himself.
The police said the accused stabbed the victim with the dagger.
A forensic team collected samples from the spot and preserved the crime scene.
The accused is currently under treatment at a hospital. He is currently unfit to record his statement.
The police said the victim and the accused were working in the logistics company for past three years and were friends.
The victim had stopped taking calls of the accused for the past three months, which infuriated him and led to the attack.
Dimple, a law graduate, was declared dead at a private hospital.
A murder case has been registered at the Phase-11 police station.
In a CCTV footage procured from the company premises, the accused can be seen approaching Dimple sitting at a computer table.
Dimple attempted to flee, but the assailant followed her and dragged her by the hair.
As other colleagues rush to help her, he allegedly brandishes the knife at them and continues to stab the victim.
At the time of the incident, there was a shift change and very few employees were on the floor. Later, several employees rushed to the spot. The suspect then stabs himself repeatedly in his throat.
Hundreds gather at victim’s cremation
Patiala: Hundreds of Patiala residents gathered to bid farewell to Dimple.
Her mortal remains were consigned to flames at the Veer Ji Muktidham cremation ground in Patiala around 3 pm. Family members, political leaders and local residents attended the cremation and demanded strict action against the accused youth.
Among those present on the occasion was BJP Mahila Morcha state president Jai Inder Kaur, who expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and sought speedy justice. “The culprit should be awarded the harshest punishment,” she said.
Granddaughter of BJP leader
The victim’s grandfather, Balwant Rai Khatri, is a former councillor and a local BJP leader.
The murder triggered widespread anger across the city. In a mark of protest and solidarity with the family, several commercial establishments in prominent markets, including Topkhana Market and Adalat Bazaar, observed a partial shutdown.
The shopkeepers’ associations extended support to Dimple’s father Raj Kumar Khatri and called upon the government to strengthen security measures for women at workplaces.
