KOTA BHARU: Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat has urged the public to come forward with information if they encounter or know the whereabouts of nine undocumented migrants who escaped from the Tanah Merah Immigration Detention Depot yesterday.
He said police believe all of them are still in the Tanah Merah area, and Op Tutup has been mounted at several locations in the district and surrounding areas to restrict their movements.
“As of noon today, only one individual has been recaptured. The remaining nine are still being actively traced. We advise the public to channel any information if they come across or know the hiding spots of these foreign nationals,” he told Bernama today.
Mohd Yusoff said searches are also being carried out at locations identified as potential hideouts until all the fugitives have been detained.
Yesterday, 10 migrants, comprising seven Thai nationals, one Indonesian, one Bangladeshi, and one Rohingya, were reported to have escaped from the depot.
Members of the public with information can contact the Tanah Merah District Police Headquarters at 09-955 6222, Tanah Merah Police Station at 09-955 6223, or via WhatsApp at 011-2955 5518.
