Cops tell public to lodge report over influencer reciting Quranic verses at Batu Caves

KUALA LUMPUR – Police have urged for the public to step forward and file a report regarding an incident involving a foreign influencer reciting verses of the Quran in front of the Lord Muruga statue at Batu Caves recently.

In a brief post on X, authorities requested individuals to make a police report to facilitate further investigation into the matter.

Four days ago, influencer Abdellatif Ouisa uploaded the video in question to his TikTok account @abdeentube.

User @thesharktattoo shared the video on the platform, saying that the behaviour of the influencer, who is of Moroccan origin, was disrespectful. 

Abdellatif's behaviour has also extended beyond the Batu Caves Temple to the Chin Swee Caves Temple in Genting Highlands.  

There, he recorded himself reciting another verse of scripture with the caption: “In front of the idols!”

Abdellatiff, an influencer famous for sharing religious content, boasts a substantial following across various social media platforms, including TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. 

Additionally, he holds the position of chief executive officer at Abdeen Academy, a Quran recital school, and serves as the driving force behind Hijra Thobes, a clothing label dedicated to Islamic attire. – May 24, 2024
