PETALING JAYA: Police will open an investigation into fake calls related to floods that disrupted rescue operations during the first wave of flooding recently.
Deputy inspector-general of police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the probe would be carried out under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, according to Harian Metro.
Advertisement“The section provides a penalty of up to RM50,000 in fines or imprisonment for a year, or both (upon conviction).
“At the moment, we will focus on flood relief efforts. After that, we will start the investigations,” he said.
