Kota Kinabalu: Luyang Community Development Leader (PPM) Simon Chin urged police to thoroughly investigate an alleged indecent exposure incident near the basketball court at Taman Hill Top, here.
He said the incident, which reportedly occurred at 10pm on July 29, involved a female resident who was walking near the court when she was allegedly verbally harassed by a man.
The woman later discovered that the man had allegedly exposed himself and committed an obscene act in public before she fled the area and lodged a police report.
Simon said the incident had raised concerns over the safety of residents, particularly women and those who travel at night.
He urged police to identify and apprehend the suspect and take appropriate legal action, while increasing patrols around the basketball court and surrounding residential areas, especially at night.
“Such behaviour not only disturbs the peace and harmony of the community but also poses a serious threat to the safety and psychological well-being of residents,” he said.
Simon also advised residents to prioritise their safety when encountering suspicious individuals, report such incidents to police immediately and, where safe, note the suspect’s physical features or other information that could assist investigations.
He said the Luyang Community Development Leader’s Office (UPPM) would continue to monitor the case and cooperate with the police and relevant authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
