KUALA LUMPUR – Police have warned the public against sharing an old video clip of a preacher who defamed the authorities in 2016.
Anyone sharing the video on social media will be liable to charges under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, added police.
The 55-sec clip saw the preacher accusing Muslim police officers of not performing their Friday prayers as well as being “stupid” for setting up speed traps.
In a statement, Royal Malaysia Police corporate communications head Skandaguru Anandan said the clip was made in 2016 and that the preacher was charged with defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
After being charged in Penang on August 26 in 2016, the preacher was fined RM7,000 by the magistrates’ court. – The Vibes, March 10, 2023
